The complete Journey to Yes
Below is a playlist of all of the Phantom Power Journey to Yes videos.
I’ll keep updating the playlist over time. They are a good resource for learning about what convinced a variety of people to change their minds in favour of Scottish independence. The playlist includes people from all walks of life, from members of the public to well know economists and philosophers.

Use the tab on the top left to select a film. I’ve put a wee menu below.
- Journey to Yes#1: Fraser is a Labour member who, let down by the empty promises made by Better Together in the final days of indyref and concerned about an increasingly right-wing UK out of the EU, sees independence as the only choice now.
- Journey to Yes #2: Daniel is a Dundee based engineer originally from London. Daniel discusses the personal, political and economic impact of the Brexit vote and the need for Scotland to take a different path.
- Journey to Yes #3: Caroline discusses the post-Brexit landscape, her concern of the increasingly right-wing populist UK Conservatives, disappointment in Ruth Davidson (Edinburgh voted 75% Remain), the economic implications of staying in a Tory dominated post-EU UK and the huge opportunities of independence for Scotland.
- Journey to Yes #4: Mike Dailly is the Principal Solicitor of Glasgow’s Govan Law Centre and Govanhill Law Centre. Traditionally Labour, Mike was a high profile campaigner for Better Together during the first independence referendum.
- Journey to Yes #5: Tom Morton is a broadcaster, writer and journalist based in Shetland. For Tom, Scottish independence is a question of moral authority and whether the Scottish people are best served by self-governance.
- Journey to Yes #6: Christopher Graham leads Yes Bikers, a group of motorbike riders who support pro-independence events in Scotland and now Europe. Christopher voted No based on the mainstream media and now feels he did not have all the information needed to make an informed choice.
- Journey to Yes #7: Erin talks about aspects of youth vote in Scotland, opportunities, barriers and how vital it is that young people engage in decisions that will shape their own future. Erin will be 16 this September and is voting Yes at the next independence referendum.
- Journey to Yes #8: Elizabeth owns a cosmetics business that depends on exports and the EU single market. Her decision to vote no was guided by fears that Scotland might not gain membership of the EU. The election of a Conservative majority in the 2015 made Elizabeth begin to reflect on her vote.
- Journey to Yes #9: After the Brexit result, Mark was impressed by Scotland’s pro-EU vote and the Scottish Government’s handling of events. In November 2016 Mark sold his London home and moved with business and family to set-up in Scotland and join the Yes campaign.
- Journey to Yes #10: Jackie reflects on her disillusion with the UK’s current constitutional settlement (England has left us) and how Brexit has altered her view of independence which she now sees as vital to maintaining Scotland and Edinburgh’s ancient links with Europe.
- Journey to Yes #11: Kathi and her family are just one of many who now face the agonising wait to see what their post-Brexit future in Scotland will be. Kathi discusses ideas of nationalism and her experience of Scotland as an open and international country where anyone can be Scottish if they choose
- Journey to Yes #12: Professor Grace-Chappell is transgender and has a particular interest in how power structures impact the society we live in. The idea of internationalism, tolerance and a more caring society is fundamental to her philosophy.
- Journey to Yes #13: James is a pensioner and former paratrooper who lives in Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire. James voted No to independence and leave in the EU referendum but has completely changed his views on both.
- Journey to Yes #14: Hilary and Carey are organic farmers in South Lanark who voted No in 2014 and are now passionate Yes and SNP supporters. They are amongst 67,000 people directly employed in Scottish agriculture.
- Journey to Yes #15: Simon Pia is a Journalist & Consultant, Lecturer and former spin doctor to Scottish Labour including former leader Wendy Alexander, Iain Gray MSP and Gordon Brown.
- Journey to Yes #16: Richard Murphy is a political economist, author, chartered accountant and one of the world’s leading thinkers on tax and how it can change society. He advises the Trades Union Congress on economics and taxation, and a long-standing member of the Tax Justice Network. Richard is Professor of Practice in International Political Economy at City University.
- Journey to Yes #17: Professor A.C. Grayling is Master of the New College of the Humanities, and a Supernumerary Fellow of St Anne’s College, Oxford.
